Setup guide
Everything you need to get from a fresh Minecraft to playing on RUKU Modded (NeoForge 1.21.1)
1 What you need
- Minecraft Java Edition, version 1.21.1 (not Bedrock)
- A PC with 16 GB RAM ideally (we'll give the game 8–12)
- The mod pack — one click, further down this page
2 Install NeoForge
NeoForge is the mod loader the server runs. Download the 1.21.1 installer and run it:
⇩ Download NeoForge 1.21.1 installerOr browse all versions at neoforged.net (pick a 21.1.x build — that's 1.21.1).
Choose Install client → OK. A "NeoForge 1.21.1" profile then appears in your Minecraft launcher. (The installer is a .jar — if double-clicking does nothing, you need Java: grab it from adoptium.net.)
3 Download the mods
This is the complete, always-current pack straight from the server:
Download modsUnzip it — you'll get a folder full of .jar files.
4 Put them in your mods folder
Press Win + R, paste the path below, press Enter:
Type the name of a program, folder, document, or Internet resource, and Windows will open it for you.
- If the mods folder doesn't exist, create it inside .minecraft
- Empty it first — delete any old Fabric jars, then copy in all the jars from the zip
- On Mac the folder is ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods
5 Give the game 8–12 GB of RAM
The pack is heavy — the default 2 GB will stutter. In the Minecraft Launcher:
- Go to Installations → hover NeoForge 1.21.1 → ⋯ → Edit
- Click More options to reveal the JVM Arguments box
- Change -Xmx2G to -Xmx8G (or -Xmx12G if you have 32 GB) and add -Xms8G — leave the rest alone
Only the highlighted part changes. If your PC has just 8 GB total, use -Xmx4G and lower Distant Horizons' quality in-game.
6 Join the server
- Launch the NeoForge 1.21.1 profile
- Multiplayer → Add Server → address: vukumc.duckdns.org
- Not whitelisted yet? Request access on the dashboard — an admin approves it
7 If something's wrong
- "Incompatible" / can't connect — make sure you launched the NeoForge 1.21.1 profile, not vanilla or an old Fabric one
- Crash on startup — almost always a leftover Fabric jar in your mods folder; empty it completely and re-copy only this pack
- "You are not whitelisted" — request access on the dashboard and wait for approval
- "Chat is not allowed by account settings" — your Microsoft account blocks multiplayer chat: fix it at account.xbox.com → Privacy → "You can communicate outside of Xbox with voice & text" → Everyone, then restart the game (a parent must do this for family accounts)
